Intuitive Movement-Just a Buzzword?
When was the last time you moved simply because it felt good? Not because you had to, or because someone told you it was “necessary,” but because your body wanted to stretch, move freely, or explore what it can do?
When was the last time you rested…without guilt? Rest is an essential part of movement, and sometimes, intuitive movement means giving yourself permission to do absolutely nothing.
So, what is Intuitive Movement?
It is simply moving because and when you want to. It’s the opposite of a rigid exercise plan or workouts that feel like a punishment. It’s a practice that focuses on tuning into your energy, emotions, and physical sensations to guide how, when, and why you move.
It means listening to your body (another wellness-y sentence that sometimes gets overused and not explained enough).
Your body will tell you when you’re tired, stiff, or buzzing with energy. All you need to do is become more aware of those messages. You can do it now. Take a moment and ask yourself “how does my body feel?” Take a breath in…a long breath out, and answer honestly.
There is so much freedom that comes with letting go of exercise programmes that feels like a chore and doing things that bring you joy.
With intuitive movement you can build a deeper connection with your body, and cultivate a sense of gratitude for what it can do.
And, I know, this is not always possible. Sometimes we may have to compromise and move in a way that we don’t particularly enjoy, but that is beneficial for us. Like lifting weights after 40- but I’ll talk about that in a different post. Balance is everything.
For now, whether is dancing in your kitchen, walking the dog, stretching or resting- what are you doing just because you really want to?
I’d love to know xx
